Key Stage 1 – Years 1 & 2
Years 1 and 2 follow the KS 1 section of the National Curriculum of England.
There are Arabic and Religion exams as per the directive from the Egyptian Ministry of Education.
Assessment is through internal tests, quizzes and assessments as well as observations by the class teacher.
Homework
Homework is given to FS2 & Years 1/2 classes.
FS2 will have reading homework and spelling homework when students reach this stage of their learning; FS2 will also be given English and Math’s homework and occasionally a project to complete. Homework will be age and level appropriate.
Homework in KS 1 (Years 1/2) will be of a progressively more academic nature as the learning develops. English and Math’s are at the forefront of course.
It is vital that all homework is completed by the student to the best of his/her ability. All homework set in EYFS/KS 1 will be explained to students. Homework must be handed in on time. Parents will be informed of any late, incomplete or missing homework via the communication book. Persistent incomplete, missing or late homework will be discussed with the Head of Stage and parents.
We follow the Cambridge International Primary Programme (CIPP) alongside the U.K. National Curriculum. There is a strong emphasis on English, maths and science, which along with humanities, are taught by the class teacher. Specialist teachers are responsible for Arabic, Religion, I.C.T, P.E., art and music. From Year 1, children will start learning a third language and will have their choice of either French or German.
Homework
The most important help you can give your child is listen to them read their reading scheme book every day and ask them to talk about what they have read. From Year 1, they will have spellings to learn every week, based on the phonics (letter sounds) which they are learning in class. They will also bring home some maths worksheets to reinforce new concepts as they are introduced. They may also have homework set by the Language teachers or have a special project to complete for their class teachers.
Assessment is through internal tests, quizzes and assessments as well as observations by the class teacher.
We are following the UK British National Curriculum focusing on Cambridge International Primary
Programme (CIPP), Checkpoint, assessments, examinations and standards for the students in Years 4, 5, 6.
